Paso de la Patria, Corrientes - Argentina

Paso de la Patria is a beach town located in the province of Corrientes, Argentina. Known for its natural beauty, it is situated on the banks of the Paraná River, at the mouth of the Paraguay River, 35 kilometers from the provincial capital. It is a peaceful and safe city.

"El Paso," as it is affectionately called, is a very popular tourist city, especially during the summer season. It consists mostly of weekend homes owned by people from the nearby provincial capitals of Corrientes and Resistencia (Chaco).

Its main attraction is the river and its beaches. The city boasts over 16 km of beaches with beach bars (paradores), offering various beach services. There are also areas along the coast where fishing is allowed.

The two beaches/resorts provide food services and beach amenities, such as chairs, umbrellas, bathrooms, buoys, volleyball and soccer courts, water activities, and everything needed to enjoy a day of relaxation with friends or family.

The Paraná River is also used for fishing, a sport that has gained high demand, especially among foreign visitors. Paso de la Patria has many operators offering guided fishing trips and boat tours. As part of its tourist calendar, it also hosts the well-known Golden Dorado Fishing Festival.

Paso de la Patria offers a wide range of accommodations for all budgets. There is also a variety of restaurants and bars.

The history of Paso de la Patria begins in 1775, when Francisco de Quevedo was tasked with finding a passage to connect Curupaití. In 1782, it was founded as Paso del Rey, first as an outpost and later a fort. By 1812, it was mentioned in official documents but was leased a year later. Over the years, it became a key point for trade, particularly cattle, between Paraguay and Corrientes. During the War of the Triple Alliance, it served as a strategic location for General Mitre to launch the invasion of Paraguay. Finally, in 1872, it was officially established as a town and later declared a Historical Park due to its role in the war.
