'It is a historic place from the War of the Triple Alliance, as well as a plaza and an artisan walkway.'

It is a historic place, in addition to being a plaza and artisan market.

Considering: That Paso de la Patria—known as Paso del Rey since 1782, when a military detachment was established there—was the scene of significant events during the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-1870).

That at its geographic center is the so-called “HISTORIC DUNE,” a site chosen by General Bartolomé Mitre as the encampment location for the Argentine and Uruguayan troops under his command.

That this choice was due to the strategic value of the location, as the dune, just a few blocks from the beach, was then a true watchtower, 15 meters in height and spanning six hectares.

That on January 20, 1866, Paraguayan troops displaced the allied detachment from this location, forcing them to retreat several kilometers.

That eleven days later, the allies, under General Hornos’ command, defeated the Paraguayan forces after a fierce battle.

That on April 16 of that year, between the dune and the beach, five thousand (5,000) Brazilian soldiers commanded by General Manuel Luis de Osorio, and five thousand (5,000) Argentines, under General Wenceslao Paunero, embarked on ships of the Brazilian Imperial Navy to head toward the mouth of the Paraguay River.

That, once the war ended, the area gradually became populated, leading the Chamber of Representatives of the Province of Corrientes to officially establish the town through a law, in its current location on the left bank of the Paraná River, in the place that, since the May Revolution, had been known as Paso de la Patria.

That on the dune—which still preserves five hectares of sand intact—artifacts such as projectiles, rifles, knives, cannons, and equipment from the combatants have been found.

That, by Agreement No. 277-3-IV-1929, the “HISTORIC DUNE” was declared a provincial monument by the government of Corrientes.

THE SITE KNOWN AS THE “HISTORIC DUNE” IN THE LOCALITY OF PASO DE LA PATRIA, PROVINCE OF CORRIENTES, IS HEREBY DECLARED A NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE. NATIONAL DECREE 763/2001
